The region's next town center is set for the busy Dulles Toll Road corridor.
Carbon Thompson Development has purchased a parcel at the toll road's juncture with Centreville Road for a $310 million project that will include 400,000 square feet of retail space and 400 apartments. Work could start next fall on what would be called Arrowbrook Centre.
The vacant property was formerly home to the Arrowbrook Farm and was owned by the Ruth and Hal Launders Charitable Trust, a private foundation. Arrowbrook Centre will include 23 acres dedicated to public parks, a soccer field, tennis and basketball courts and a small amphitheater.
By the time Arrowbrook Centre gets off the ground, it will have plenty of competition in the neighborhood.
Other projects in progress near Carbon Thompson's site include Dulles Station, which will eventually have 1.5 million square feet of office space, and Dulles Corner, a two-building, $120 million office complex backed by Vardell Realty Investment.
